Scarecrow Weekend 2019

What an amazing weekend we all had!! The standard of both the scarecrows and their entourages flew even higher this year. Thank you all so much for entering in all the various competitions. Over the weekend we were chatting to a lady who runs a scarecrow festival outside Swindon She was astonished by the quality of our scarecrows. What weather! Having spent all Friday morning making contingency plans for a very wet parade (or even worse no parade at all) suddenly, at around 5.00pm, the clouds moved away, the rain stopped and our wonderful festival was underway as normal.

Our winners in the entourage competition –held on Friday night were:

  • Brockhampton School – £50 plus the School’s cup
  • The Royal British Legion – £50 plus the Monica Orgee Cup
  • Rowden House School.- £50
  • Edwyn Ralph Social Club – £50

Saturday morning saw the judging of the Scarecrows themselves.

  • 1st Books at the Snug – Wales
  • 2nd 1st Bromyard Guides – India
  • 3rd B and M Johnson – England

Highly Commended

  • Tina Famer – Greenland
  • The Studio -Switzerland

Certificates of achievement went to:

  • Winslow Court
  • Bredenbury School
  • Frome Bank Residential Home

Our Saturday afternoon “Build a Scarecrow Competition “ was won by  The Grafham Family who will also receive the Keith Handley Cup with their cash prize.

Our name the scarecrow competition finished at 5.00pm on Sunday. We had two prize winners, both visitors to the town; John and Karen Burrage and Richard Jones We will be sending them their cheques through the post.

The children’s competition ,whereby the children had to find the names of Famous Landmark by reinserting missing vowels gave us a few headaches as we had several winners. The committee decided that the winner would be the entry with the correct spelling of the various landmarks and this was Morgan Tolley. Morgan will receive a book token.

Next year our theme will be Famous Landmarks (so have a look at this year’s children’s competition to get a few ideas).

Thank you all so much-for your energy, enthusiasm and time. We couldn’t do it without you.

Here’s to Scarecrow Festival 2020!!
