Well we are nearly there! Scarecrows 2018 already-goodness doesn’t time fly.
Malvern Boys Brigade band are all ready to lead our fantastic parade up the street at 7.00pm on Friday June 8th, starting at St Peter’s churchyard. The youngsters in the band are so enthusiastic that they are bringing their own scarecrow. The Café in the Square is providing the refreshments so don’t worry about eating before you come. As usual we will be following the route up the High Street and finishing on the Town Green. Our secret judges will take a careful and impartial look at the entourages and the winners will be announced when everyone has arrived on the Green. There are four categories to be judged: schools; clubs and associations; general public and businesses-so lots of opportunities to win a prize.
On Saturday morning all of the scarecrows will be on display between 11.00am and 5.00pm. Once the judges have made their decision the results will be posted in the kiosk outside the Leisure Centre.
The kiosk will also be selling forms for the competition. Cryptic clues will lead you to the title of the scarecrow (easier than last year we promise). For the children there will be another set of clues and the winners will receive a book token.
This year we are intending to alter the route the scarecrows are set out in, to make it slightly shorter for those of you who like to walk around it, and accessible by car for those who prefer to drive.
Saturday afternoon sees the second of our scarecrow building competition, the first one was very successful last year- and a chance for your creative powers to shine through. The idea is that teams of four build a scarecrow using straw and baler twine-the teams have one hour only to construct their entry. The competition will be held between 2.00pm – 3.00pm in The Falcon carpark, gather at 1.45pm please. Last year’s teams had great fun- and a great mess was made by all! The winning team will win a trophy plus a cash prize and what’s more we don’t ask you to clear up!!
The annual Scarecrow Supper will be held in the Public Hall at 7.30. A delicious cold supper and dessert followed by entertainment by the Worcester Ukulele band. Tickets £12. From Pearl Briggs 01885 483940, email@example.com.
Sunday morning the Scarecrows will be out again by 11.00am giving those of you who missed them on Saturday chance to enter the competition. All competition entries need to be returned to the kiosk by 5.00pm- we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the prizes by being late. Please collect your scarecrows by 5pm too, we will leave them on the Town Green.
Thank you all so much for your support over the years and we do hope that you will help us make 2018 the best yet!! If you require any further information please go to our home page or email Lynne Wilkins, lynne@bromyardscarecrow festival.co.uk or call 01885 488206.
