2018 Festival Final Report

What an amazing weekend. Thank all of you who worked so hard to make it possible.

The entourage competition kicked us off on Friday evening with the winners being St Peters School and 1st Bromyard Guides – how the judges managed to find winners amongst all those great costumes I do not know!

A big thank you must also go to all of you who dug deep into your pockets and donated to our bucket collection (some of you were caught twice) also to those of you who waved and cheered the parade through the streets – you  always help to make it special.

Saturday dawned with sunshine. Out went the Scarecrows to be judged. A near impossible task I should say but winners were:

  • 1st The Royal British Legion: 1914-1918 WW1
  • 2nd St Michaels Hospice: Four Weddings and a Funeral
  • 3rd Pettifers: Three Blind Mice.

There were four highly commended:

  • Rowden House School: CP30
  • Winslow Court WMLC: Count Von Count
  • Maureen Jones: One Man Band
  • Scriven’s Opticians: One man went to mow.

The Name the Scarecrow competition was one by Ian Baudains with a score of 35/36. Ian has been a keen supporter of the completion so we are so pleased to see him win.

The children’s competition winner was Shea Geoghegan aged 8.

The Saturday evening supper hosted eighty one people who all had a great meal and were entertained by The Worcester Ukulele Band. If you have never heard them you have missed a treat.

The planning for next year is already underway (well as soon as Lynne has come out from lying down in a darkened room). The theme is Countries and there are plenty of those to choose from! So you don’t have to worry about a book, song or a play, just open the atlas and stick a pin in!

Please come back to us with your entries for next year – especially those organisations who obviously got their dates muddled and either fixed the revealing of an amazing outdoor building project or even worse a wedding on Scarecrow weekend. Seriously we missed you both and look forward to seeing you next year.

Look out for next year’s entry form, very soon, on our website or Facebook.
