Plans are now well in hand for this year’s festival the theme for which is to be SONGS, and I am pleased to say that I have already received a number of entries. The festival will take place from Friday 10th June to Sunday 12th June. I am now writing to both those who have taken part in previous years, in the hope that you will consider entering again in 2016, and also to those considering entering for the first time. We would like to encourage more people to submit entries and are especially keen to receive entries from local traders as the original idea of the festival was to encourage people to come to Bromyard and support the traders.
The event will commence as usual with the parade on Friday evening leaving St Peters Churchyard at 7.30 and making its way through the streets and back to the Town Green at the Public Hall for the announcement of winners of the entourage competition, the usual BBQ and entertainment. This is a fun evening with hundreds of people lining the streets to see your entry, prizes of £50, £25 or £15 are awarded to the two classes. Judging takes place in the Churchyard prior to the parade and whilst it is proceeding through the town.
On Saturday and Sunday entries need to be in place between the hours of 11am and 5pm so that those doing the competition can follow the route to try to establish what the scarecrow is depicting. In order to keep the festival financially viable we are again asking if you would be able to get your entry sponsored. We only ask for a contribution of £10 and anyone willing to help in this way will, if they wish, have their name printed in the programme and on the information board adjacent to their exhibit. Judging will be carried out during the morning and prizes awarded as soon as the judges have made their decisions. Prizes of £50, £25 and £15 will be awarded for the entries chosen as 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Attached you will find an entry form. Please complete it as soon as possible and return to me at the address below. Once you have decided on your SONG, please give me a call to check that your choice of entry has not already been taken as we try to avoid duplicate entries. The closing date for entries is Friday 27th May and we will be unable to accept any after this date as the information for the programme will be going off to the printers the following week.
I do hope that you will wish to take part, and look forward to receiving your completed application. If you require any more information please get in touch. We can also offer guidance for those entering for the first time.
